What is Academic Mobility?
Academic mobility is the movement of trainees or research teaching fellows for a specific academic period (including the passage of training or production practice), usually a semester or academic year, to another higher educational institution (domestically or abroad) for training or research, with mandatory transfer of established educational programs in the prescribed manner in the form of credits in the institution.
There are external (international) and internal (national) academic mobility.
Under external academic mobility is understood the training of students in foreign universities, as well as the work of academic researchers in foreign educational or scientific institutions.
Under internal academic mobility is understood the training of students, as well as the work of lecturers and researchers in leading Kazakhstan universities.
Academic mobility differs from traditional foreign internships, first of all, by the fact that, firstly, students go to study abroad, although for limited but long terms - from semester to academic year, and, secondly, during such internships, they learn fully, not only learn the language and individual disciplines, but undergo a full semester or one-year course, which is credited to them upon return to the basic university. "The basic university" we call the university where the student entered, and whose diploma he originally wanted to receive.
This means that any student who meets the eligibility criteria has the opportunity to go for 1 semester or 1 year under the program of academic mobility.
Who can participate in the mobility program?
As a rule, students of 2-3 courses take part in the program of academic mobility, since in the first year they study mainly general educational subjects that do not require the departure. The last course of study requires practice and writing a thesis, which makes it impossible to participate in the mobility program.
What is necessary to participate in the program? Are there any special requirements for students?
In order to participate in the program, you need to be a full-time student, have "good" and "excellent" grades and apply for competitive selection of students for academic mobility programs.
In addition, if you want to go to one of the far abroad countries, you need a good knowledge of a foreign language, usually English.
Where can I go?
The student actually has the right to choose any higher educational institution in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan or abroad, which will ensure the transfer of credits (i.e., assessments for the courses attended).
In addition, the University has signed cooperation agreements with more than 40 higher education institutions from around the world (including the Russian Federation, Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, the United States, etc.). When choosing a university from the list of partners, the application process is substantially simplified, and the chances for a positive response increase. More details on the list of partners can be found on the official website of the University www.kuef.kz in the section International Cooperation.
What does the academic mobility program give me?
Academic mobility programs are a chance to expand your horizons, to visit another country, to get a unique experience of studying in a higher educational institution of another state. All this will allow not only to find new friends and get a lot of impressions, but also to increase the competitiveness in the future.
What will happen to my studies at the University during the period when I will leave the academic mobility program?
Before the student leaves, a lot of work is done to agree on the courses that he will take at the host university so that they coincide with those studied in the directing University.
All you need is to successfully master the program of the host institution, pass the session, after which you will receive an academic certificate with grades on the subjects you have passed. Upon returning to the University, your grades will be counted, and if there are any items that you have not completed, they will need to be handed over in the summer semester.
How are academic mobility programs paid?
The size and order of payment are determined individually for each student. This is due, first of all, to obtaining the consent of the host institution, since it is he who will determine the order of payment for tuition. Some higher educational institutions-partners agree to accept students on a gratuitous basis, others with partial or full payment for training.
In addition, the student, of course, should provide for the cost of flight to the country of passage of the program, accommodation and additional personal expenses.
